How does this help the environment?  In the first instance electricity generation in New Zealand comes from environmentally friendly generation facilities – primarily geothermal, hydro and in some cases wind. As more electricity is required at peak times the electricity increasingly has to be generated from our least environmentally friendly generation options such as diesel and coal fired power stations.

So if we as consumers can help shift the load of electricity usage away from the peaks – this is a help to the environment as more of our electricity requirements can be fulfilled by geothermal and hydro generation. With a Pulse Time of Use Smart Meter on your wall consumers can be in control as your electricity usage is monitored every half an hour so you can make decisions about your consumption – this is called Demand-Side-Management.

So Pulse Energy collects the data electronically (no need for meter readers at your premises!) – builds a profile of your electricity usage – gives you this information – offers you cheaper off-peak rates – so you have the knowledge and desire to help reduce electricity demand on the grid at peak times – which saves you money and helps our environment. Brilliant!
